One Occasion, two benefits. Happy Dhanteras!!!

Health is Wealth. A quote that we all have heard about a thousand times in our life.
Both coming at the same time is like icing on the cake.

We love ourselves and we all try to maintain a good health. But, sometimes the Wealth issue makes us compromise on quality products.

Dhanteras brings a ray of excellent hope for all the businesses and people consider this day to be one of the holiest to buy anything new, be it purchasing Jewellery, Automobiles, Clothing, Utensils, etc.

Pinkcitykirana brings you your daily needs at highly discounted prices. Festivals are for happiness; keep your body and pockets healthy.

The Story behind:

Dhanteras is the first day of the Indian Diwali Festival. The festival is known as "Dhanatrayodashi" or "Dhanvantari Trayodashi". It is celebrated on the thirteenth lunar day of Krishna paksha (dark fortnight) in the Vikram Sambat Hindu calendar month of Aaswayuja in the Amaavasyanta Luni-Solar Calendar.

Dhanvantari is worshipped on the occasion of Dhanvantari Trayodashi. Dhanvantari is considered to be the teacher of all physicians and the originator of Ayurveda.

On Dhanteras Hindus consider it auspicious to purchase gold or silver articles or at least one or two new utensils. It is believed that new "Dhan" or some form of precious metal is a sign of good luck. "Lakshmi Puja" is performed in the evenings when tiny Diyas of clay are lit to drive away the shadows of evil spirits. "Bhajans", devotional songs in praise of Goddess Lakshmi, are also sung

Doctor's Day celebrated - In the memory of...

Bidhan Chandra Roy, MRCP, FRCS (1 July 1882 – 1 July 1962) was a highly respected physician and a renowned freedom fighter. Bidhan Roy is often considered the great architect of West Bengal, who founded five eminent cities, Durgapur, Kalyani, Bidhannagar, Ashokenagar, and Habra.
He was an alumnus of the Medical College Calcutta of the University of Calcutta. He is one of the few people who completed both F.R.C.S. and M.R.C.P. simultaneously within only two years and three months.

The Congress Party proposed Dr. Roy's name for Chief Minister of Bengal. Dr. Roy wanted to devote himself to his profession. On Gandhiji's advice, however, Dr. Roy accepted the position and took office on 23 January 1948.

Dr. Roy believed that swaraj would remain a dream unless the people were healthy and strong in mind and body. He made contributions to the organisation of medical education. He established the Jadavpur T.B. Hospital, Chittaranjan Seva Sadan, Kamala Nehru Hospital, Victoria Institution, and Chittaranjan Cancer Hospital.
The Chittaranjan Seva Sadan for women and children was opened in 1926. The women were unwilling to come to the hospital initially but thanks to Dr. Roy and his team’s hard work, the Seva Sadan was embraced by women of all classes and communities. He opened a center for training women in nursing and social work.

In 1942, Rangoon fell to Japanese bombing and caused an exodus from Calcutta fearing Japanese insurgency. Dr. Roy was serving as the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calcutta. He acquired air-raid shelters for schools and college students to have their classes in, and provided relief for students, teachers and employees alike. In recognition for his efforts, the Doctorate of Science was conferred upon him in 1944.

Dr. Roy believed that the youth of India would determine the future of the nation. He felt that the youth must not take part in strikes and fasts but should study and commit themselves to social work.
He gifted his house for running a nursing home named after his mother, Aghorkamini Devi.
The B.C. Roy National Award was instituted in 1976 for work in the area of medicine, politics, science, philosophy, literature and arts. The Dr. B.C. Roy Memorial Library and Reading Room for Children in the Children's Book Trust, New Delhi, was opened in 1967. Today, his private papers are part of the Archives at the Nehru Memorial Museum & Library, at Teen Murti House, Delhi.

The nation honoured Dr. Roy with the Bharat Ratna on 4 February 1961.

In India, the National Doctors' Day is celebrated on the date of his birth (and death) 1 July every year.

Keeping your body cool is very necessary given the rising temperature day by day. Add these ingredients in most of the drinks that you take to beat the summers....

1. Tulsi – You can use it for garnishing or add Tulsi in various sharbats. Though Tulsi is hot in nature, but, adding it in your daily drinks can heal a lot of diseases, reduces chances of cancer and can even help you quit smoking.

Drink rose water as a mood enhancer, to relieve depression or stress and improve mood. Drink rose water to relieve digestion troubles like bloating, upset tummy and constipation.

3. Gulkand or Rose petal preserve – You can add it to milkshakes or sharbats or gulkand can be eaten in little amount after your meals. It helps reduce acidity and stomach heat.

Stay healthy this Summer

  1. Stay cool and hydrated. Drink as much water as you can, at least 6-8 litres per day. Avoid drinking cold water immediately after you return from outside in the exposure of Sun. While enjoying the sun and outdoors, protect yourself from overexposure to sunlight by sunscreens. Applying Aloe Vera gel over your body keeps you cool and protected from excessive heat.
  2. Keep up or begin an exercise program. Aerobic activity is important for keeping the heart strong and healthy. If you only work out in a health club, take some time to do outdoor refreshing activities -- hiking, biking, swimming, or tennis. Reconnecting with these activities will help keep your body and mind aligned.
  3. Enjoy Vegetables & Fruits – Consuming foods that are cooling and light -- fresh fruits, vegetable juices, raw vital salads, and lots of water -- will nourish your body for summertime activities. Eat Watermelon, Pineapples, Mango, Oranges, Guava etc.
  4. Drink Iced Tea - Drinking Iced Tea keeps your body cool and helps you stay healthy.
  5. Eat baked potato or pasta salad - Carbohydrate-rich foods can help to combat heat exhaustion. Eat regular small, starchy carbohydrate snacks during the day, such as pitta bread, to keep your body's blood-sugar and energy levels even. Other ideal carbohydrate foods include baked beans, rice, fruit, yoghurt and milk. Although this may be the last thing you fancy in hot weather, curries and chillies can stimulate heat receptors in the mouth, enhance circulation and cause sweating, which cools the body down.
  6. Eat Onions - Especially red ones contain a chemical called quercetin which is believed to have an anti-histamine effect. Histamine is the irritant that causes heat rashes and adverse reactions to insect bites and stings, so eating onions daily may help to ease these summer complaints.
  7. Drink Coconut water - An inexpensive coconut is full of health benefits and has wonderful cooling properties. It is laden with simple sugars, electrolytes and essential minerals which help keep the body well hydrated. In addition to that, there is evidence to suggest that coconut water has cancer fighting and anti-ageing properties as well.
Pinkcitykirana.com promises to keep you healthy this summer. :-)
